What is therapy?
Therapy is a gift that you give yourself. It is time set aside for you to explore who you are, where you are, what you’d like to be doing and how to make that happen for yourself. It is a chance to slow down your world for a short while, to open up to someone and talk about issues that you might not feel comfortable talking about to others in your world. It is a confidential moment to engage with another human being about what it is to be human.
What therapy means to me?
The very nature of the therapeutic alliance where one person is putting so much trust in another is both my honor and privilege. If I can create safety in the room for my clients, so that they may be able to go wherever their honest discovery takes them, then I get to be a witness to the client's incredible growth and journey.
What kind of therapy do I practice?
I work from a variety of orientations based on the client's needs. Theoretically speaking, I come from a humanistic/person centered/existential/object relations/solution focused approach, which can involve empathy, unconditional positive regard, that I am not the expert in the client’s life, personal responsibility for choices and outcomes. I use a direct approach with humor to assist the client to realize all of their strengths and to put them to good use in their daily life.
